An investigation of U.S. women's soccer found systemic abuse across the sport and said allegations of misconduct against coaches were repeatedly ignored

An independent investigation into U.S. women’s professional soccer paints an unsparing picture of what it called systemic abuse across the sport, in which reports from players about their coaches were repeatedly ignored by the league and federation—and at times seen as normal behavior because of practices that are entrenched in the game at the youth level.

The United States Soccer Federation retained former acting U.S. Attorney General Sally Q. Yates of King & Spalding LLP to lead an inquiry that followed reports last year of sexual misconduct by male coaches in the National Women’s Soccer League. U.S. Soccer helped launch the NWSL in 2013. The NWSL is conducting its own investigation, which has yet to be completed.
