Seth, who is Tuscarora Mohawk and a residential school survivor, said their words were hurtful and he felt a need to act. He told CBC he doesn't think councillors had malicious intent, but some comments were still insensitive. The events led to Seth filing harassment complaints against District 1 Coun. Gordon MacDonald, District 2 Coun. Earlene MacMullin, District 9 Coun. Ken Tracy and District 10 Coun. Darren Bruckschwaiger over comments in the session and email chain. The Post obtained a document containing part of the formal complaint, verifying the date filed and the number of councillors accused.
“His accusations I don’t agree with. I still to this day don’t know what it is ,” said MacMullin. She said her main intention in her emails was not to harass, but to challenge the municipality on the involvement in council in decisions like the renaming of Canada Day celebrations. CBRM Coun. Earlene MacMullin:"His accusations I don’t agree with. I still to this day don’t know what it is ." IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POST - IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTDespite the Canada Day emails and June’s committee meeting walkout, MacDonald said he didn’t feel there was a dispute between him and Seth personally. MacDonald said he felt the email chain was taken out of context.
