AHS\u0027s new Connect Care data system makes it almost impossible to provide faith\u002Dbased hospital visits, says a volunteer.
, a system designed to improve the storage and sharing of patient medical information, fails to mention religious affiliation of those in hospital, making it nearly impossible to provide faith-based visits, said Ron Bing, founder of Temple B’nai Tikvah.“When Connect Care came in, those lists stopped coming, incoming nurses stopped asking ,” said Bing, who’s been visiting Jewish patients for the past 26 years.
After a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, those faith-based visits resumed but stopped again a few months ago with the advent of Connect Care in Calgary last year, said Bing. Bing said he’s been told AHS staff are working on returning the listing function to Connect Care, but he questions why it’s taking so long to reinstate it.
