The Shaw Charity Classic, a three-round birdie bonanza with US$2.4 million prize purse and a massive community impact, runs Friday to Sunday at Canyon Meadows. Alker made some waves in the minor leagues, winning twice on Canadian Tour, three times on the PGA of Australasia and earning four titles on what is currently known as the Korn Ferry Tour. But now this journeyman pro is really making his mark.
During his days on the Canadian Tour, this Kiwi covered a lot of pavement on the Trans-Canada. He remembers being gobsmacked by the scenery as he rolled through the Rockies. He even summited the Order of Merit standings in 2000, surging into top spot thanks to back-to-back victories in P.E.I. and Sarnia.
