An RCMP news release said police received a report at about 9:10 a.m. of a blue Toyota Echo, with Nova Scotia licence plate GYT158, that was travelling at an excessive speed and went through a red light on Windmill Road in Dartmouth. Ten minutes later, RCMP received a second report that the same vehicle was travelling outbound in the inbound lanes on Highway 118.The Toyota Echo was observed driving outbound in the inbound lanes when it collided with a Jeep Wrangler. The driver of the Echo then fled into the woods.A passenger in the Jeep Wrangler, a 60-year-old woman from Bible Hill, was seriously injured in the collision.
Highway 102 inbound was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision analyst and reconstructionist processed the crash scene.Firefighters, paramedics and Transportation Department workers assisted RCMP members at the scene. Anyone with information about the identity of the driver of the Toyota Echo or photos or video of the vehicle leading up to or at the time of the collision is asked to contact Halifax RCMP at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip to Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
