Ottawa Fire Services received multiple 911 calls about the blaze in the 100 block of St. Paul at 3:11 p.m.

and when the trucks arrived at the scene four minutes after being dispatched, crews confirmed smoke and flames were coming from the back of the structure. They attempted to enter the building from the rear, but had to abandon those plans because of dangerous holes in the floor. After entering the front of the building, they began extinguishing the fire and searched for occupants, and after two searches determined it was empty.
