The RCMP is starting to look into potentially investigating the Ford government’s move to open up parts of the Greenbelt to development.
OPP received a number of calls to launch an investigation, but released a statement Wednesday, saying they referred the matter to RCMP “to avoid any potential perceived conflict of interest.” The RCMP confirmed the force is beginning to evaluate the information available and after they do a full assessment, they will determine whether or not to launch a formal investigation.
A report from Ontario’s Auditor General found certain developers who had access to Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark’s chief of staff Ryan Amato were favoured during the process. Amato has since resigned. When asked about the potential investigation by the Mounties on Friday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he’s confident the Mounties will find no criminality in his government’s process of how they decided to remove parts of the protected swath of land for housing.If you have found a spelling error, please, notify us by selecting that text and pressing
