Colin Scales, owner of Blue Ribbon Pet Supply, holds up two boxes of frozen raw food options for dogs. Scales said he sees more dog owners choosing raw-food diets for their pets. - George Melitides/SaltWire NetworkCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Florence MacDonald was preparing a decadent meal of duck paired with rabbit, but it wasn’t for her.The duck and the rabbit were for her 220-pound English Mastiff Levi who suffered from infections due to a weakened immune system.

There’s people that feel very strongly one way or the other around this,” he said.
“The pet may go on living a normal life, never have a problem, that’s great. The other possibility is ... it can develop an infection with this type of bacteria which is now much more difficult to kill with antibiotics that we would normally use.” “My general take on this is go in and be informed as an owner. Make sure you try and read information from sources that are as legitimate as possible, there’s a lot out there ... Generally, people don’t have a lot of scientific background to support what they’re saying.”
McMullin also recommends cooked fresh food for dogs, but whether cooked or raw, she could not stress enough the importance of balancing the diets.
