Every March, what's billed as the World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup brings about $8.3 million to the local economy of Sweetwater, Texas. This year, organizers decided to still hold the festival on March 13-15.

Facing a worsening outbreak — one that would lead Gov. Greg Abbott to declare a state of emergency on March 13 — stakeholders, local leaders and members of the community kicked off a series of meetings in early March to decide whether to move forward with the festival.
