Demand for illegal firearm 'switches' — small devices attached to semiautomatic pistols to make them fire like machine guns — is exploding and so is their availability on the black market, federal authorities said Monday. 'Unfortunately, we have seen a sharp increase in the number of switches on our streets across Texas , and they are alarmingly popular among juveniles,' said Jaime Esparza , U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas .
Never, ever leave your gun in your car. It's an 'invitation to chaos.' Esparza's and three other U.S. attorneys offices in Texas are teaming up with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to slow the proliferation of the devices, also known as 'sears' and 'chips.
