Less than a month after trading him away as part of the dismantling of their underachieving season, the New York Mets welcome Max Scherzer back to Citi Field...
“I loved it,” Scherzer said before the game. “My time here was a blast. I really felt like we had a great group to be able to win. Unfortunately, we just didn’t get those type of results. And that’s what’s frustrating. That’s what always leaves a sour taste in your mouth. But at the end of the day, I loved my time here.”
And, of course, it was a chance to seek comment on tabloid headlines that surfaced shortly after the Mets traded both he andAdvertisement “We actually had a great clubhouse,” Scherzer said. “We had great veterans in a clubhouse, everybody included. That’s definitely not the reason why we lost. We were a tight-knit group, had a lot of fun together. Verlander and I are actually on a better page now than we were when we started the season. We’re much better off than we’ve ever been.”
