Since Chapman has a higher swing-and-miss rate and significantly greater velocity, he might be the choice for the ninth if the situation would favor him more. Since both pitchers are lefties, it might favor the Rangers more to have Chapman pitch if the situation is full of right-handed hitters. He’s held right-handers to a .146 average, but lefties are hitting .211 against him. Left-handers are hitting only 148 against Smith.
