The first signs of the cold storm reached San Diego County Tuesday afternoon as ominous storm clouds began to build across the region. By the evening, the first showers touched down.

By early Wednesday, coastal areas had already seen up to a tenth of an inch of rain while the inland valleys received about a quarter-inch. Three-quarters of an inch of rain fell in the mountains and light sprinkles fell in the desert.Sign up for NBC San Diego newsletters. Wet weather is forecasted to last through the weekend with minimal breaks in between days. Rain will be light, off-and-on, through Thursday. Then, another storm system in the form of an atmospheric river will take aim at San Diego County -- and that's when the downpours begin. The heaviest rain is expected Friday and Saturday.

“Into the weekend, this storm is still going to be impacting us,” NBC 7 Meteorologist Sheena Parveen said. “So, rain and snow looking like Saturday and Sunday." We are in for a VERY busy week!
