Keanu Reeves in Bill & Ted Face the Music
Summary Keanu Reeves recalls a kneecap injury he suffered while filming the new comedy film, Good Fortune. Written and directed by Aziz Ansari in his feature film debut, the upcoming comedy film follows Reeves as a guardian angel for a down-on-his-luck man who swaps his life with a wealthy socialite to prove that money can't buy happiness, though the demonstration doesn't go as planned. Other than Ansari and Reeves in lead roles, the cast includes Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh.
Reeves recalled the moment in great detail, as he was filming a scene with Ansari and Rogen in a cold plunge. After filming the scene, he started to do the "cold shuffle" and his foot got stuck in the carpet, causing him to fall and his kneecap "cracked like a potato chip." Reeves originally thought he was fine, but when his knee started swelling, he knew something was seriously wrong.
I’m doing the cold shuffle in this room that had protective carpets down and then, just here, there was like a little pocket, and my foot got caught in the pocket in the shuffle, and then I went , but didn’t follow. And then, in slow motion, I went falling. My arms came out, but then my knee failed because it’s got some stuff, and I spiked it. And my patella — kneecap — cracked like a potato chip. Comedy’s hard, man.
At the 2024 CinemaCon in April, Ansari addressed all the attention surrounding Reeves' injury, explaining that the actor fractured his knee by tripping on a rug in his trailer. However, he continued to shoot most of his scenes on schedule despite the injury. Good Fortune was able to finish filming before Reeves' next movie, Outcome, started shooting in March.
