Questions that still surround Arizona State football after spring drills
The Arizona State Sun Devils wrapped up spring drills on Saturday under coach Herm Edwards for the fifth time. It marked the official start of preparation for the 2022 campaign with the first game coming on Sept. 1 against Northern Arizona at Sun Devil Stadium.
The Sun Devils are coming off an 8-5 showing that was only good enough for second in the Pac-12 South Division behind Utah. It was a disappointment given the expectations for a veteran-laden squad. With the departure of a boatload of starters, the Sun Devils will be hard-pressed to match that win total.1. Who will start at quarterback?Sun Devils started the spring with five athletes in the mix
and the 15 spring practices did little to resolve that question mark. The two getting first-team reps for the balance of the spring were redshirt junior Trent Bourguet, Daniels' understudy, and redshirt junior Paul Tyson, a transfer from Alabama where he was a little-used backup. The other three on the roster are redshirt freshman Finn Collins and redshirt sophomore Daylin McLemore, neither of whom has seen game action, and true freshman Bennett Meredith.
and Chris Edmonds , who are sure to factor in. On the offensive line it looks Martinez and Isaia Glass, a local out of Queen Creek, are battling for the start at right tackle. The spring is about finding that player. This time last year it looked like wide receiver Elijhah Badger would be a candidate for 2022 and it didn't come to fruition. Coaches and teammates have touted Badger's athletic ability, so they have to be hoping this is the season he emerges as a big-play threat.
