Queen Elizabeth II's 94th birthday celebrations have been canceled due to current social distancing measures because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
turns 94 on April 21, but the monarch's special day will not be marked by gun salutes, and flag flying protocol has been updated to reflect the fact that many people are currently self-isolating or social distancing.
While other members of the royal family will likely take to social media to celebrate the queen's birthday, no other public celebrations will be taking place. According to,"The [gun] salute usually takes place at Hyde Park and the Tower of London... A Buckingham Palace official confirmed that the monarch had decided it would not be appropriate at this time."
