“These citizens weren’t in infraction when they received the death certificate in English many years ago,” said Cadet, the Liberals’ critic for the French language.Article content She added that the situation is “complete nonsense” and an example of “the rigid application of Bill 96.” It’s clear the Coalition Avenir Québec government hadn’t thought through the different situations that might arise when Bill 96 is applied to official documents, notably birth, death and marriage certificates, Cadet said.from ordering a copy of an official certificate in French if the initial certificate was drawn up by the province of Quebec in English.

Cadet and Kelley’s letter calls on the CAQ government to allow citizens to use the regular government portal to request an official certificate in French if they choose, even if it was initially issued by the province in English, and pay the usual fee charged by the government for a certificate.
