SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 6, 2023 | SaltWireGANDER, N.L. — RCMP in Gander have arrested 34-year-old Luiggi Giovanni Yataco for his alleged involvement in an attempt to scam a local grandparent.
The victim told police they had gotten a phone call from a person claiming to be their grandchild, possibly using technology to mimic the sound of their voice, stating the grandchild was in trouble with the law and needed money to pay bail. The second phone call set off red flags for the victim, leading them to double-check the information provided by the scammer and going down to the police detachment to file a report.
