In both cases, the children — a four-month-old boy and a weeks-old boy — died soon after being sent to a hospital with whooping cough in the spring of 1970.
In an interview Wednesday, one of the lawyers who represented the families said the requests to have the bodies exhumed were a first of their kind under the law, but “it’s very likely there will be more.” “It’s an excessively difficult process for the families,” Dufresne-Lemire said, “but it’s a very important judgment and, despite how difficult going through it has been and the questions that remain, the families are satisfied with it.”
