The prosecution case in the trial surrounding a 'tit-for-tat turf war between rival drugs gangs' in Rochdale is 'flawed at its heart', a defence barrister has claimed. after a rival drug dealer’s car was rammed off the road before he was attacked with with axes, a machete and a combat knife.
READ MORE: 'He made me feel worthless - I was carrying his child but the beatings and abuse carried on' He argued that Mr Alam, said to be an affiliate of a rival drugs gang run by a man named Owais Ali, would have been 'dazed to say the least' following the incident. Mr Mushtaq did not give evidence at the trial, with Mr O'Byrne describing the prosecution case as 'flawed at its heart'.
"But of course that is not the approach you need to adopt when you come to consider the evidence in this case. What you have heard about in this case, and particularly what you have seen, was truly appalling. "On whom should that failure, because it was a failure, rebound?," the KC asked jurors. "Where there is doubt, ladies and gentlemen, how should that be resolved?"
