Metro Vancouver has secured the land to create a new Cape Roger Curtis park on the island, but it faces hurdles with a worried public.
“To be clear, we’re still at early days,” Leonard said. “Second reading of the rezoning and the amendment will likely come in the fall.”
Some of the council’s requests include the establishment of a cross-island shuttle to the park, which is in the far southwest corner of Bowen Island away from its main access point at the Snug Cove ferry terminal, and completion of a feasibility study for a dedicated passenger-only ferry to serve the island.Article content
“Today, Crippen Park is a success, loved by both locals and residents of the region, most of whom do come as foot passengers on the ferry, as per the original plan,” Fast wrote in her letter. The park concept plan is only preliminary and there are still plenty of opportunities for revision, according to Jeff Fitzpatrick, Metro Vancouver’s divisional manager for regional park design and development.
Fitzpatrick said the next phase of public engagement will seek responses from the public on whether they have gotten that access element right, or whether it needs to be reduced.
