This side of the trestle in Sydney River has been tagged by students from Riverview High School's graduating class for more than 40 years. On Tuesday, people had painted over the "RHS Class 24" tag with "F--K RHS 24". Wednesday morning people found the trestle had been painted over again to remove the profanity. NICOLE SULLIVAN/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY RIVER, N.S. — Ann Stephenson loves her rental unit in a seniors complex in Sydney River.

From multiple rooms, including the living room, they can see the trestle painted by one graduating class, then painted over by another and tagged repeatedly. Most who spoke to the Post didn't want to be quoted or identified in any way for fear some people involved in the trestle painting might retaliate against them for speaking out through destruction of property.

"And now they've written on the pavement and desecrated it again … it's disgusting looking. Between that and the racing they're doing here, from the Walmart parking lot after 10 o'clock at night, it's unreal." Back in the early days, Sydney Academy graduates did paint over the RHS declaration occasionally, but not the street or concrete sides of the structure.

"There have been situations in the last number of years where cars parked at people's homes that live close to the trestle were painted." Cape Breton Regional Police said they have received two reports of people painting the trestle over the past week and that this activity is"concerning."
