Province is providing funding for HVAC upgrades at schools throughout B.C.
Prince George schools will be getting nearly $1.8 million dollars for upgrades from the province’s fund for school maintenance projects.
The School Enhancement Program, which supports repair and maintenance projects that preserves the life of a school building, will fund HVAC upgrades at Peden Hill Elementary, Pineview Elementary, and Quinson Elementary, while the Carbon Neutral Capital Program will fund HVAC upgrades at Foothills Elementary.
The province is providing $261.1 million in 2023-24, including $41 million to upgrade heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems at 101 schools throughout B.C. To further improve emissions reductions and energy efficiency at B.C. schools, the Ministry of Education and Child Care's Carbon Neutral Capital Program is also providing $23 million in 2023-24 to support energy and electrical upgrades at 86 schools. The Carbon Neutral Capital Program provides specific funding to energy-efficiency projects that lower school districts' carbon emissions.
