Stephen Means and Andrew Gillis preview Ohio State football's last round of 2025 June official visitors.

Listen to Buckeye Talk, your favorite Ohio State football podcast, five days a week with Stephen Means and Andrew Gillis. This first weekend features 11 players with five-star recruits Devin Sanchez, Na’eem Offord and Tavien St. Clair plus four-star Nate Roberts headlining as the commits. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means and Andrew Gillis discuss them all.

in the class, every single one of them. So obviously that’s what we’re going to start with. Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class, 16 commits in it, the number one class in the country, by a pretty decent margin at this point. But also there’s a bunch of SEC schools who haven’t necessarily gotten cooking yet. So we’ll see where things are maybe close to November, maybe even signing day when the final score is up there in the tally. But we’ll start with the commits.

And that involves Devin Sanchez and he offered, you’re right. You have the number one, number two corners and you’re like, yo, come be part of this. Come be great. They’re Tavian St. Clair, the leader of the class being the quarterback that he is. He’s going to be here. This is a big thing to get these two cornerbacks in because one Devin Sanchez has locked in. And we talked about this a couple of months ago because he locked in a month or two ago. I don’t know.

kind of what the noise is on Dorian Brew because it feels like this guy should be a Buckeye by everything about him. He’s from Ohio. His mom is in the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame. He’s getting recruited by Tim Walton, who’s done a great job with everybody, right? Like it feels like this is something that should map out, but it hasn’t. And we got to figure out.

There is ties from LSU who is one of the schools that is pushing there. He didn’t grow up there, of course. Of course. But he didn’t grow. No, you’re right. He didn’t grow up in Louisiana. I think that’s the thing. If he’d have grown up in Louisiana, I think all the things we’re talking about with his mother, Donica Merriman, then yeah, I’m with you 100%. It’d be like, okay, listen, he grew up in Louisiana. He’s got Louisiana ties because his father ran there.

once you get them on campus, not anything is up for grabs, right? I mean, but you can say that about any of the safeties or any of the cornerbacks on the roster. I mean, heck, their starting nickel safety last year is currently a linebacker. So, you know, I think that’s always on the table there. OK, let’s hit into the other commits here before we take a break. Jayden Harmon out of Rome.

And I think maybe if you’re, I think maybe you could be looking at a situation where let’s just say worst case scenario for our state, you miss Harman, you miss Pettigon, you miss Farramo, you miss Owusu, or excuse me, Owusu Botang, not Owusu Koromo. Jeremiah Owusu Koromo is his half brother. But Owusu Botang, excuse me. So you miss those four guys and Owusu Botang ends up at Michigan and Farramo at Notre Dame and Harman at Alabama and Pettigon at Texas. Maybe they’re just sitting at two.

Our man, you might be the only contender and he might be in a same situation where he’s just like Alabama wants him to shut this down after this is over and just be done with it. I’m sure Auburn wants the same thing with Autry, but Autry has taken some visits. I think maybe I don’t think we’re on outright flip watch with either of these guys, but I think maybe like we saw with Isaiah Gibson, maybe decommit watch would be interesting and that would be something to keep an eye on.

you know, maybe got a little bit more intense with Ohio state and the interest was kind of always tepid. And then Ohio state offers in June. And then you can start to see, okay, the offer comes, the OV is set up pretty quickly. I think we have a rate. I think we have a read on which way this is going. I think that he is going to be in this class.

a couple of days ago, but it’s been something that’s been in the works for quite a while here recently also decommitted from Louisville. And I mean, we’re talking about with some of these guys, hey, can Nahim Alfred, are they going to use this? OK, he comes out of this. I’m like, no, I’m done. I’m not really exploring any other schools. I’m with Devin. We’re just locked in here.

he said that, you know, Ohio state really likes that because they know that he could play a little bit bigger. he’s rapidly improved over these last year or two. like when he camped, he told us that quote, an OSU offer would mean everything. Like I said, I grew up with Ohio state football. That’s all I know. Growing up with coach Meyer, growing up watching coach Meyer coach day. I mean, right now I’m 100 % Louisville all the way, but if Ohio state does offer things will probably change.

adding a guy, a third guy to this class. He’s the most likely for thing stand right now. I don’t know if we’re going to sit here and say, by Tuesday, he’ll be in the class like we just like you just said with Jay Cook and maybe the same thing with Brody Lennon. But you’re almost keeping a watchful eye on how this visit goes and then what comes out of it in terms of momentum for Ohio State.

because Alabama, Michigan and Oregon have been pushing really hard and he already has a good relationship with Tony Alford at Michigan. And I know that still stings fans to hear, but he had a great relationship with Alford when he was at Ohio State and now he has a great relationship with Alford when he’s at Michigan. So there are schools that are still pushing for him and there are schools that will continue to push for him.

who he is. Is he an edge player that Ohio State thinks can play interior? Is this a guy who Ohio State views strictly as an edge? You know, we saw that with Dom Kirk’s like he’s listed at 642 35 is is that a 642 90? Is that is that in his range of outcomes or is it 642 50 and you want him to play the edge? So interesting here. Very, very interesting here.

you pull out all the stops for these kids. Because if you’ll notice, like some of these locations and like, it’s it’s a big deal, I think, and it’s notable that every visit is planned.

kind of hosting the next guy that you think is going to be a five -star tackle to play for you, that you at least want to try to see what you can do there. And I think at that time, it was probably the safer bet to just be like, all right, well, this is interesting. Ohio State, you know, they’re going all in here, but I don’t know if it’s going to lead to anything. Right.

You’re bringing in a guy who’s probably going to commit on the offensive line this weekend. You know, even if he doesn’t say it publicly, I’m sure, you know, there’s going to be something there where he commits. Like you said, they’re bringing in unofficial guys. Like you are doing everything you can because you can bet you’re behind that Ryan Day and Chip Kelly and Justin Fry and every single coach on Ohio State staff that can will be in David Sanders ear.

that Paris was here that day and they had Paris hanging out with that kid. I wonder if they might try to pull that off again. I think the thing is this. It wasn’t fair to ask Justin Fry in the 2023 class to try to go pull a five star. but at least based on some of the actions, based on some of the commits expecting to be here, based on the fact that they’re going last, based on the fact that I don’t know if Paris is gonna be here. I’m just wondering. I’m just wondering if Paris is gonna show up. And if that does happen, Ohio State did everything it could to maximize its chances of getting a guy who might be their future left tackle for at least two or three years, right?Right. Yeah.

JT Twinmolo, wow. Jack Sawyer, Donovan Jackson, Trevion Henderson, CJ Hicks in 2022 and Sonny Styles in 2022 as well. And then the tier after that where I think I might take David Sanders as a recruit over these other guys as recruits are probably Jackson Smith, the Jigba, Emeka, Buka, but I’m not like, I don’t feel great about putting that number one Y receiver in the country there, but I will. And.

is more important than what Donovan Jackson was. I, I, again, I think you can make that case. And then you’re talking about, okay, this is the most impactful recruitment since the class of 2020 and the offensive line. I mean, this is the most impactful recruitment since a dude who’s going into his second year in the NFL. You know, like this is a huge deal and you want to talk narrative shift.

Everywhere on this staff is loaded with talent in not just for for recruiting purposes as coaches, but like this particular class now you land a five star tackle to go with Carter Lowe who I think if like if David Sanders jr. Commits to this class and commits to Ohio State I am going to be the one that is screaming from the rooftops that everybody’s forgetting about Carter

There is just so much that can change with a David Sanders commitment. I’m not going to say I’m expecting David Sanders to commit this weekend, even if he wants to go to Ohio State. This is the thing where Ohio State is going to roll with the red carpet as they should, as they have been, as they will. And whether he could commit on Monday, he could commit with Jake Cook and say, I’m going to Ohio State. And unless he says the word, I am shutting down my recruitment. I am going to Ohio State.
