Buchan says she understands a little of Carrie’s situation but also that of Carrie’s daughter-in-law, played by Heather Pattengale, and her son, played by Nathan Schmidt.
“Carrie runs away to search for the woman she once was because she has turned into a hateful, quarrelsome person that even she doesn’t like anymore. She’s in search of the peace and dignity she has lost. That’s what she hopes to find in Bountiful because that’s what she had when she lived there,” says Buchan.On her trip, Carrie meets several people.
Buchan is quick to add that “though there is, and has been, a great deal of tragedy in Carrie’s life, there is also farce and comedy. There is so much to laugh about, and with, in the play. It’s so beautifully written and all the characters are so real. It’s another of those little plays that really belong in Rosebud.”
