Chelsea’s awful run of form continued on Wednesday night with a 1-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Karim Adeyemi scored a superb winner on the counter-attack to decide the first-leg at the Signal Iduna Park.
The first-half was pretty end-to-end but both sides lacked quality in the final third, with Sebastien Haller, starting his first UCL game since recovering from testicular cancer, coming closest for Dortmund when he hit the side netting.meanwhile squandered two great chances, firstly blazing over Hakim Ziyech’s cut back, before hitting the crossbar from close range.
It wasn’t until the 54th minute that we had a shot on target when Reece James’ free-kick was well-saved by Gregor Kobel, but it was Adeyemi who opened the scoring just past the hour mark. The 21-year-old speedster blitzed away on the counter before rounding a helpless Kepa Arrizabalaga to put the ball into the back of an empty net – all just a minute after James was denied again by a great Kobel save.
