Staff Reports Northside Methodist Academy kept its slim postseason hopes alive and prevented Providence Christian from clinching a state playoff spot on Wednesday as the Knights earned a 6-5 win over the Eagles in high school baseball action at Pitman Field.

Cole Haddock led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error on a pickoff attempt and to third on a passed ball. Jeremy Lee Jeffcoat drew a walk before Grant Horne singled in Haddock. Harrison Hicks followed with a run-scoring single to score Jeffcoat, cutting the gap to 3-2. An inning later, Providence Christian loaded the bases with one out after consecutive walks to Win Brock, Roman Banner and Andrew Owen. David McClurkin hit into a force out at second with a throw to first not in time. Both Roman and Rylan Banner, a courtesy runner, scored on the play, cutting it to 6-5.

Dykes opened the inning with a single. After a ground out, Chance Smith singled to score John Martin Byrd, a courtesy runner for Dykes. A walk to Canady and a hit by pitch to CJ Sullivan loaded the bases. Smith scored on a passed ball before Brock walked to reload the bases. After a strikeout, Owen drew a walk to force in Canady to make it 3-0.

Braden Shirley struck out seven over four innings of relief for Pike Liberal Arts, giving up just one run on four hits with two walks. The Patriots scored a run in the top of the third on an error during a double play attempt. They scored in the fifth during an error on a steal attempt.Ariton 11, Wheaton North 3: Myles Tyler was 4-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in and Ian Senn was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs batted in to pace Class 2A top-ranked Ariton’s win.

Springville 5, Carroll 0: The Eagles were no-hit through seven innings by Springville’s Carter Samuelson and Ryan King, who combined on eight strikeouts. Bryson McCrea had two singles and a run batted in, while Blayne Wood had a single, an RBI ground out and an RBI sac fly to lead G.W. Long’s offense. Cohen Pritchett had a single and a run batted in, while AJ Dyson had an RBI sac fly and Bryson Hughes had a ground out RBI.

Rehobeth 5, Oak Grove 2: Rehobeth seized a five-run lead with two runs in the second inning and three in the third and held for the win. Bradley-Bourbonnais 10, Cottonwood 6: The Boilermakers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to beat Cottonwood 10-6.
