“Most of the fans that I’ve spoken to are sanguine about a top six finish at last: which, quite frankly, is a genuine possibility and not far-fetched at all,” says Harneet Singh Sethi, sportswriter and Leicester City expert at the Foxes of Leicester blog. “The expectations of Claude Puel last season were not entirely different in the sense that the scale of his task was exactly the same but well within Leicester City’s reach; however, he failed.
Danny Simpson and Shinji Okazaki, veterans of the championship-winning campaign, have been allowed to leave, while Harry Maguire has been sold for almost $100 million to Manchester United. With the window closing later today, it seems unlikely that anyone will directly replace Maguire, leaving one of Caglar Söyüncü, who has impressed in preseason, or Filip Benkovic, who Rodgers signed to Celtic last season, to take over in central defense.
