The killer entered the home undetected. There were no signs of a forced entry. Placer County Sheriff's Office Lt. Nelson Resendes, who is leading the homicide investigation, believes the killer waited for the opportune moment to murder two people. Wood grew up in the East Bay and used to take the ski bus to Lake Tahoe on weekends, Adrienne Spohr said. Lake Tahoe was a place of peace and reprieve for their entire family. Spohr and Wood, who were in the real estate business, built their West Shore home and lived there for 17 years. They cared deeply for the community they were involved in.
After the gunman shot Wood twice, she was bleeding on the floor and likely unconscious. Miraculously, she woke up. Adrienne said she believes their dog, Maggie, might have woken Woods up. “My mom is the strongest person I know,” Adrienne said at the press conference. “She survived something that no one is supposed to survive. And it is her iron resolve that she has had her entire life that got her out of this house on June 5.”
