Powderfinger’s 'One Night Lonely' virtual gig was a hit
The special performance was months in the making. The former bandmates have been meeting regularly to discuss anniversary releases around their ARIA Award-winning 2000 set“The idea came up of playing together again in this unusual format which we all thought would be fun,” comments the Brisbane band in a statement. “The past few months has been a very strange time for us all and difficult days for many.
It’s been a decade since the five-piece were an active outfit. The classic lineup of Bernard Fanning , Ian Haug , Darren Middleton , John Collins and Jon Coghill went their separate ways in 2010 with a finallap of the country, which sold more than 200,000 tickets. Their final performance was a gig for friends and family, held Nov. 20, 2010 at The Tivoli, a 700-capacity venue in central Brisbane.
For last weekend's one-off show, the famous five played in separate rooms. The set featured the classics “Bless My Soul,” “Sunsets,” “My Happiness,” “ On My Mind,” Already Gone,” Thrilloilogy,” and “These Days” and has tallied more than 558,000 views. The Finger, as they’re affectionately known in these parts, boast 18 ARIA Awards and three APRA Awards. It’s only a matter of time before the band is tapped for induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
