Good Tuesday morning, Prime Minister JUSTIN TRUDEAU will welcome Caribbean Community leaders to Ottawa for the next three days for a CARICOM-Canada Summit. Trudeau will co-chair the summit along with ROOSEVELT SKERRIT, the prime minister of Dominica and current chair of the 50-year-old regional association. All 15 members of CARICOM are developing countries. Canada is not a member or an associate member, and has not previously hosted its Caribbean neighbours for a summit like this.
photograph by Sam Garcia Kruger made headlines in August when he told analysts on a conference call that Suncor had developed “a disproportionate emphasis” on the energy transition and that it needed to refocus its efforts on its existing oilsands business. Those comments seemed to echo remarks from other oil industry leaders who were pulling back on emissions targets and looking to capitalize on high oil prices.
