'We have no words for this'
Police are appealing for information after a starving and severely injured dog was found in a shallow grave and covered with rocks.
Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Inspector Ryan Robb, said: "We are aware of the level of concern and anger in relation to this absolutely sickening and shocking act, and we are liaising with Derry City and Strabane District Council." With no owner immediately available, the vet contacted Pet FBI Rescue who took responsibility for the female dog and permission was given for the medical team to try to save her.
"This afternoon a member of the public came across two males, approximately in their 20s burying this dog alive in a hole dug in the Ballyarnett area close to Cornshell, repeatedly beating her with rocks to keep her down and piling more rocks on top of her. "Someone knows who the [people responsible for her suffering] are. Please, please contact the PSNI directly or ourselves privately to forward on any information regarding their identities. Please help get them off our streets."
PSNI Inspector Robb said: "Our appeal is to anyone who may have been in the Park yesterday and saw what happened, or anyone who knows who is responsible, to get in touch with us.
