As the incident unfolded, police said the highway had to be closed and motorists in the immediate area were advised to seek shelter.
An incident that closed the Pat Bay Highway for several hours on Friday night and early Saturday morning is now under investigation by the province’s police watchdog, Saanich police say.
Saanich police said about an hour later that one person, a driver of a vehicle, was in custody but did not disclose any other details of the incident.
