Heroic canine managed to round up one suspect before turning its attention to another who appeared to be attacking its handler
A pair of burglars chose the wrong racing opponent this morning , as a Chorley Police dog chased down one suspect before helping to apprehend another who was attempting to fight an officer. Police Dog Rufus, part of the Lancashire Police Dog Unit, was instrumental in detaining the pair, who police suspected matched the description of offenders reported to them by a witness.
Rufus' hard work allowed its handler to detain the men, Lancashire Police Dog Unit said later. The dog unit published a picture of the dog, adding: "PD Rufus and handler detain 2 males leaving the scene of a burglary matching the description of offenders. One male decided he wanted to fight with assisting officer. PD Rufus put a stop to that."
Lancashire Police Dog Unit's Facebook page carries pictures of its dogs — and puppies — and their activities in and around the county. The popular page has 31,000 followers.
