A memorial service for a dog in which guests were invited from around the province might sound like a bit much for your average mutt, but Taz wasn’t merely a family pet.
It’s this unique bond, and the important role police dogs play in their communities, that made the Aug. 1 memorial service extra special, Vitali said. At the service, 60 to 70 police service dogs joined their handlers by paying tribute to Taz, who was one of two police dog losses in Ontario in recent months. Earlier this summer, Toronto Police Service dog Bingo was shot and killed on duty.
Greater Sudbury Police Service welcomed two new police dogs in December 2022, including Royal and Dusko, who is handled by Const. John Robinson.
