CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Rising food and fuel costs were the main topics on the mind of Pierre Poilievre during his visit to Prince Edward Island on Aug.

During a media briefing at a Petro-Canada station on Capital Drive, just outside of Charlottetown, the Federal Conservative Party leader pointed to the rising costs of gasoline, which currently stands at $1.86 a litre.“Gas prices have skyrocketed across Atlantic Canada since Trudeau's tax took effect at the beginning of last month.”If he becomes prime minister, Poilievre pledged to “axe the tax,” and rescind the carbon pricing policy of the Justin Trudeau Liberal government.

Some of these increases – about seven cents a litre – have been due to both an increase in carbon pricing and new clean fuel regulations for refiners, which were imposed by the Federal government.Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre pledged to rescind the price on carbon, as he pointed to rising food and fuel prices during a P.E.I. visit. On Aug. 16 Poilievre will also host an"axe the tax" rally in Rustico, P.E.I.

As of July, according to new numbers from Statistics Canada, the price of groceries rose by 8.4 per cent in July, compared to the previous year.Carbon pricing policy has been a cornerstone of the Trudeau Liberal climate change plan for years. Poilievre said he had just met with P.E.I. Premier Dennis King. King raised the subject of tolls on the Confederation Bridge, which he has suggested should be cut in half."I'm open to it,” he said.

Wright said recent talking points by the Conservative leader about the World Economic Forum have been characterized by some as “dog whistling.”"Your question seems to be based on a false premise. You can't even tell me who these experts are. It sounds like it's just a CBC smear job. Thank you, next question," Poilievre said.
