Shortages caused Plano ISD’s superintendent Sara Bonser to serve as a substitute at elementary school last week.
“Last Friday we were 190 subs short,” Bonser said during the meeting. “We were 190 subs short, so everyone in this building was out subbing in a classroom.”
“Our long-term rates for teachers would not change, Assistant Superintendent Beth Brockman said during the meeting. “We are recommending the change in the long-term, 21-day rates for a paraprofessional role to $110 a day. In addition to the pay increases, “super subs” — those who take 10-14 jobs in a calendar month — will receive a $300 bonus for that month. Those who work 15 or more jobs in a calendar month will receive a bonus of $350 for the month.Under a “critical need” bonus for times of critical need shortages.
That will include paraprofessionals and those who are degreed but not certified as well as certified subs.
