Plano city leaders have begun discussing how to spend the second portion of $36.4 million in COVID-19 relief from the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Last June, the city received the first payment of $18.2 million. This year, the second payment is expected to arrive around the same time, City Manager Mark Israelson said during the March 15 city council meeting.

The fund would also be used for $5 million in improvements to heating and cooling in city facilities. Prompted partly by electric grid challenges the state faced during, the city is looking at having additional heating and cooling stations at recreation centers and the Plano Event Center in the event residents lose power.
