The Plaid Marquee Film Society is back after almost a three-and-a-half-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic., with Steven MacLean, said that since screening their last film on Feb. 22, 2020, they had money left over in the coffers and wanted to give it another go.

“There's still an audience for seeing movies on the big screen, having that immersive experience. We're at that point where one of the things we want to stress is we're at the point now where our funds are running out, and it really depends now on public support to keep us going,” Dodds added.began in 2002 and operated regularly until the pandemic hit. The society is part of the Toronto International Film Festival’s film circuit.

The biggest thing they need to cover costs and be able to bring independent films to Pictou County is, simply put – more viewers. “If we lowered the cost to $5, we wouldn’t be able to guarantee that we’ll get enough people,” Dodds added.
