Apparently, during a cross-examination during the trial, Assistant District Attorney Jim Lazar asked the former baseball star to demonstrate how a woman might walk and Vazquez did not take kindly to that. Per the site, Vazquez’s defense attorney argued that “forcing his client to demonstrate how a woman walks — in sashaying hips — was demeaning for his client, a 6-foot-3-inch Black Venezuelan man.
Attorney Jon Pushinsky reportedly claimed that it was “a demeaning and emasculating cross-gender performance,” and he claimed that evoked “base racial stereotypes that influenced the jury’s perception of Vazquez and the evidence presented at trial.” The attorney argued that “Having Black men make fools of themselves in front of a white audience,” was the same as making them the “courtroom jester,” according toPrior to his arrest, Vazquez, who started his career with the Washington Nationals, had developed into one of the top young closers in baseball and was an All-Star pick in 2018 and 2019 for Pittsburgh.
