MP Leslyn Lewis, who was third in the 2020 leadership contest for party leadership, came in third place again with 9.69 per cent of the vote. Poilievre’s clear first ballot majority – a feat that Harper had also achieved in 2004 – could also give him the moral authority he needs to bring his party together after a sometimes nasty campaign that fuelled talks of division and of MPs stepping down. He also had kind words for Charest, whom he thanked for his service to the country and for fighting for Canada “when the nation’s back was against the wall” in the 1995 Quebec referendum.Article content
