OTTAWA — An anti-abortion group is crying foul – and blaming Pierre Poilievre — after “the most winnable pro-life” candidate was disqualified from the race to decide who should run for the federal Con
servatives in a rural Ontario riding.
It had long been expected that when Mackenzie stepped down, Tait would step up and into the job, reflecting her family’s historic roots in the riding. The party disputed that account. It said the recommendation to disqualify him came first from the riding association’s nomination committee. But a perception that O’Toole then abandoned that wing of the party was one of the factors that ultimately cost him the leadership.
