Pickup fire in Kearny Mesa parking lot prompts arson investigation [Breaking]
An arson investigation was launched after a truck was set on fire in a Kearny Mesa parking lot on Sunday morning, a police official said.
The owner of the pickup reported the blaze about 10:30 a.m. on Chesapeake Drive north of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, in a commercial area that includes clusters of businesses. The owner told police he and another man got into an altercation and that the other man ignited the fire. The owner also said the other man possibly fired a round from a handgun, police Lt. Christian Sharp told OnScene TV.Officers were unable to immediately confirm whether a shooting occurred. Sharp said water and foam that firefighters poured on the truck to extinguish the fire didn’t allow officers to immediately look for shell casings.
Firefighters put out the fire, which did not spread beyond the truck and did not threaten any buildings. Sharp said there were several surveillance cameras in the area that would likely assist in the investigation.
