In one of his first assignments at the Gazette, Dave Sidaway travelled to Joyceville medium-security prison near Kingston, Ont., along with reporter Mark Abley in the summer of 1988 to shoot Alphege Gore, Canada’s oldest prisoner.

Gore was sentenced to three years in prison for stabbing to death the woman he had been married to for 61 years. Margaret Gore was 78.
