6 children, 1 man injured in north Phoenix crash
A teenage boy died following a crash with a presumed impaired driver on 30th Street and Greenway Road in north Phoenix on Sunday morning, according to police. Four children and two adults were also hospitalized.
Two boys were in critical condition but were later stabilized, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. A boy, a girl, a man and a woman were in stable condition. All of them were expected to survive, police said. Phoenix Police said the crash happened around 8 a.m. after a pickup truck going south on 31st Street did not stop at the red light on Greenway Road and turned right on the eastbound lanes while going west.
While driving the wrong way, the pickup truck crashed into a car occupied by the family of two adults and five children. All of them were taken to a hospital where one of them, a teenage boy, later died.The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and showed signs of impairment. He was in the process of being booked into jail under manslaughter and DUI charges, police said.
