The Braves put two on with two out against the left-hander on a soft single to left and a grounder that hand-cuffed shortstop Trea Turner. And there-in lied the problem, asking six relievers to all be on their game instead of needing only two or three, potentially, if Thomson gave Suarez a normal leash. The move to Kerkering was not surprising considering Thomson said prior to the series he would use the 22-year-old in high-leverage situations. Kerkering retired the side in order in the seventh, but Thomson asked him to start the eighth after a long top of the inning in which the Phillies scratched out an insurance run to go up 3-0.
Olson chased ball four on a full count before flying out to deep center field for the first out. Ozzie Albies then hit a rocket to the left of shortstop Trea Turner, who made an incredible diving catch before starting a jaw-dropping 6-4-3 double play.
