The three-time Stanley Cup champion spent parts of his first three seasons of his NHL career with the Flyers.

Philadelphia Flyers general manager announced on Tuesday morning that the team has“I am proud to announce the addition of Patrick Sharp to our hockey operations team,” said Briere. “Patrick is a well-established veteran on-and-off the ice and his incomparable hockey knowledge will be a valuable asset to our organization and young prospects.”

Sharp’s role with the Flyers will see him report directly to Briere, getting involved in all aspects of the hockey operations department of the team with a primary focus on helping develop the club’s prospects. “In adding Patrick Sharp to our group, we are gaining an individual who has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to building an environment of winning at all levels,” said President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones. “Patrick knows what it takes to win, he understands how to convey that to our players and is a relationship maker. He will be a vital component as we continue to build the foundation of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Sharp spent the first two and a bit seasons of his NHL career with the Flyers from 2003 to 2005, where he had 10 goals, 5 assists, and 15 points in 66 games before he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks partway through the 2005-06 season. He went on to play 11 seasons in two stints with the Blackhawks, winning three Stanley Cups in the process, along with two seasons with the Dallas Stars in between.

This will be Sharp’s first professional hockey team staff role since his retirement, as he’s spent the past five seasons working with NBC Sports and NBC Sports Chicago in studio and colour commentary roles. He also spent the past two seasons as an advisor to the coaching staff at the University of Vermont.
