Phil Dawson being a legendary name in Cleveland Browns history is as certain as death and taxes. The team on Tuesday made his legend status official.
In this Oct. 13, 2008 file photo, Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson celebrates a 35-14 win over the New York Giants in an NFL football game in Cleveland. Dawson is having another Pro Bowl-caliber season that probably won't end with a trip to Hawaii. It's not that Dawson doesn't deserve one or want to go. But kicking in Cleveland's wind tunnel has its drawbacks as does playing for a losing team, something the Browns have been for most of his 10 years in the NFL.
A model of consistency, dependability and authenticity, a face of our franchise for 14 years and one of the most reliable kickers in the history of the game.Dawson scored 1,271 points during his tenure in Cleveland, the second most by a Brown. He also has the second-longest tenure for a Browns player in team history.
The Browns will honor Dawson during a halftime ceremony in Week 3 , when the Browns host the Giants at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
