Opinion: The budget spends more time commiserating about how difficult it is to make ends meet in B.C. than it does in presenting solutions.
Last month, B.C. Liberal leader Kevin Falcon presented our official opposition’s Better Is Possible mental health and addictions plan. We have committed to spending $1.5 billion over three years on a full system of care, with a focus on treatment and recovery across the province. Our plan would make treatment beds completely free, giving anyone who needs help the opportunity to get well.
It’s not just individuals and families that aren’t getting the needed support from government in this budget. Businesses also feel left behind, as budget 2023 contains no measures to reduce burdens, or even provide funding to assist with the growing cost of street disorder, as requested by the Business Improvement Association of B.C.Article content
Shockingly, “victims of crime,” both businesses and individuals, do not even get a mention in budget 2023 — let alone the support they need. British Columbians are tired of broken promises and announcements that never translate into results. If you asked anyone today whether they are better off after six years of the NDP, I imagine most would say “no.”Article content
