A man aged in his late 80s has died at a hospital in Cork after an apparent assault by a fellow patient.

Irish police arrested a man in his 30s at the scene, and he was taken to Bridewell Garda Station in the city.The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning at Mercy University Hospital.It is understood the patients involved were being treated in the same ward. The area of the hospital where the incident happened has been sealed off for forensic and technical examination.
